One of the park’s long-time partners, Orchard Cove, is the embodiment of Henry Ford’s thinking. They have supported the park for several years as an event sponsor and recently became a corporate member. In this Q&A, Emily Sigal, Lifecycle Marketing and Operations Manager at Hebrew SeniorLife, shares why Orchard Cove became a corporate member of Friends of the Blue Hills (FBH) and what the partnership means for the community.
FBH: What inspired Orchard Cove to partner with Friends of the Blue Hills?
Emily: “Orchard Cove decided to partner with the Friends of Blue Hills because of how well your work aligns to the authentic values and recreational interests of so many Orchard Cove residents. Residents of Orchard Cove are deeply passionate about nature conservation and outdoor engagement. They find joy in outdoor activities both on the Orchard Cove campus, and in other local parks like the Blue Hills Reservation.”
Orchard Cove was the 2025 FBH Corporate Partner of the Year.
FBH: What does this partnership mean for your residents and staff?
Emily: “It underscores our shared love for nature and commitment to preserving the beautiful landscapes that surround us. Orchard Cove residents are active in activities to support environmental stewardship and sustainable living within Orchard Cove, and it’s great to extend that commitment to the broader community.”

FBH: How does supporting local conservation and outdoor access align with Orchard Cove’s values?
Emily: “Our resident-run Sustainability Task Force holds an annual Earth Day celebration, coordinates recycling events and programs across our campus, and publishes an educational newsletter for fellow residents that covers a wide range of environmental stewardship topics.”

FBH: Are there any moments that really stand out with the Blue Hills community?
Emily: “A particular moment that stands out to us is the second year we participated in the FBH Winterfest chili cookoff event. Our culinary team shared their original chili and corn muffin recipe—and was named the first-place winner! Everyone was so warm and welcoming, and it really made our team feel at home”
