We’re excited to welcome the four newest members of the Friends of the Blue Hills Board of Trustees! Each of them joins us with a special connection to the park, from having fond memories on the trails to spending time studying New England’s unique forest ecology.Â
Make sure to say hello if you spot any of these friendly faces on the trails! We can’t wait to see how they help our organization grow and transform.
As ambassadors for the organization, they’ll help us care for the park and strengthen connections across our communities. With their energy, expertise, and dedication, they’re ready to help ensure the Blue Hills Reservation remains a vibrant, welcoming place for everyone to explore, enjoy, and call their own. They were voted in at the Annual Meeting on November 6.
Liz Faye, Trustee at Large
Liz carries with her a deep gratitude for the Blue Hills and the joy and wonder the trails bring her every week. She visits the trails in all seasons, and feels at home in both the muffled winters and with the singing birds in spring. Her connection and gratitude to the park fuels her dedication to preserving it and encouraging others to connect with its beauty!
Fiona Jevon, Trustee at Large
Though Fiona grew up in the Boston area, the Blue Hills took on new meaning when she moved to Milton in 2023. It’s now become her family’s go-to weekend trip, and she finds joy and connection amongst the trees. As a forest ecosystem ecologist, PhD, and professor, Fiona spends her professional life studying how New England forests are adapting in a changing climate. She brings scientific insight and heartfelt appreciation for the Blue Hills to the board.
Pete Merotta, Trustee at Large
Pete’s background is in landscape architecture and cultural landscape preservation at the Trustees of Reservations. He believes in the power of nature and that time outside is essential to health and community. He’s also an experienced hiker and explorer, and can often be found on a long hike in the Blue Hills, camera in hand, ready to capture a special moment. These days, he’s also sharing the joys of the Reservation with his son at the Trailside Museum.
Debbie McElwhaine, Trustee at Large
Debbie enjoys many activities in the Blue Hills trails and waterways: running, biking, snowshoeing, paddling, and skiing. There’s no doubt that Debbie and her family are big adventurers! She’s inspired by how close this wild, varied landscape is to Boston, and how irreplaceable it is for so many families. Debbie, a lawyer at Ropes & Gray specializing in asset management, lives in Canton with her husband and two kids. She is excited to support the long-term protection of a park that has given her so much.
